Constitutional and Environmental Studies on the Etiology and Pathogenesis of Essential Hypertension

Abstract
studies were undertaken to examine neurovegetative constitution, pressor response, personal r(temperament and emotion), noxious emotional stimuli (stresses), salt-intake, ageing factor and ttributing factors relating to the etiology of essential hypertension experimentally, epidemioas well as clinically. Therefore the pathogenesis of essential hypertension was investigated istitutional and environmental viewpoints.
isential hypertension is a product resulting from interaction between individual constitutional ;itions and environmental factors in human ordinary daily life.

,e constitutional predispositions include both sympathico-dominant constitution and pressor persracter and environmental factors both pressor emotional stimuli and chronic high salt-intake. k greater the traits of constitutional predispositions and pressor environmental factors be-
in detail ;

more traits of sympathico-dominant constitution are possessed,

more traits of pressor personal characters are possessed,

9 greater the intensity, length and frequency of pressor emotional stimuli become, and S more salt one intakes for a long duration,

easily essential hypertension will develop. However, when the constitutional predispositions while the environmental factors are strong and vice versa, essential hypertension may develop. dle age period as an ageing factor provides fundamental basis for the development of essen-
.mentioned five factors are considered as the most important determinants in the initiation of hypertension. As a minor factor, overweight helps to elevate blood pressure.
69ential hypertension is a clinical entity which results from sustained neuro-humoral changes aided with overproduction of catecholamines through Cannon¢¥s pathway (sympatho-adrenomedul
